Novice chefs often imagine that they have only two options: restaurant kitchens or pastry bakeries. The Culinary Degrees at FEI gives you the tools to expand on these options.  Here is a short list of some of the most unusual careers available after graduation. They blend creativity, science, business and innovation:

🧪 1. Research & Development (R&D) Chef

Research Chef is all about reinventing the donut. You design new products for grocery chains, restaurants and even meal kits. It combines culinary techniques with food science. This career is all about innovation and creativity.

You also study market trends to see if chocolate is going out of fashion. It is up to you to discover the latest food craze or invent it. They also make certain that the new recipes are easy enough to replicate. This adds to the mass market appeal of your new dish.

  • Research chefs are usually employed by Food manufacturing companies (Nestlé, Kraft, PepsiCo, etc.) and restaurant franchises (McDonald’s, Starbucks, etc.).

📸 2. Food Stylist or Influencer

Food stylist or food influencers make dishes for the big screen. The dishes need to be as eye catching as possible. They are often employed in advertisement campaigns. This career is part cooking and part art. You need to know how to use the camera as well.

Often, you will be filming and photographing the foods you have prepared. This is perfect for chefs who value presentation above all else. You can also get your own cooking show, with enough charisma and food presentation.

  • Food stylist typically earns between $75K in South Florida.

Clinical chef plotting what foods to feed its patients.

🏥 3. Clinical or Therapeutic Chef

A clinical chef works alongside medical professionals and dietitians. Unlike traditional chefs, nutrition is the most important aspect of every meal they make. They will often create meals for patients with special needs. These needs can include diabetes, food allergy or life-threatening illnesses, like cancer.

They also make foods that cater to patients with specific cultural needs and backgrounds. Eating healthy is part of the healing progress. As a clinical chef, you can make a positive impart in the life of your patients.

  • Chefs for VIP patients or wellness resorts can exceed $100,000+ with experience.

🌍 4. Food Tourism or Culinary Travel Guide

Do you love to cook but also travel? If the answer is yes, Culinary Travel Guide is the career just for you. In this role, culinary professionals lead tours that explore the local food and drink culture of each region.

They work with travel agencies to give tourist the best dining experience possible. Some even run their own culinary focused travel agencies.

  • 78% of travelers view food and drink experiences as essential to their trips
  • 64% say food significantly enhances their overall satisfaction.
  • Culinary tours lead the activity types (~40% market share), followed by street-food tours (28%), wine & food pairings (19%), and cooking classes (13%)

🎮 5. Culinary Consultant for Video Games, TV, and Film

Believe it or not, chefs have a place in the video game world. Culinary experts are often hired to design fictional menus. They also help animators depict food in a realistic fashion. This career is perfect for lovers of video games and food.

In television, it often happens that the actors playing chefs, do not know how to cook. It is your job to make certain that the actor slices an onion like a pro. You also design the sets for dinner and kitchen scenes.

Presentation skills are the most important, not so much the flavor of the meal. After all, video game characters do not have stomachs. As for actors, most of the time they are going to be pretending to eat the food you placed before them.

Movies have a lot of takes. So, you need to create dishes that stay and look fresh for hours. Examples:

  • Janice Poon – Culinary consultant for Hannibal, responsible for grotesquely beautiful “cannibal cuisine.”
  • Final Fantasy XV – Used actual chefs to design photorealistic meals that players can cook.
  • The Bear (Hulu) – Culinary experts helped create the intense realism of a fine-dining kitchen.

Final Thoughts:

A culinary education takes you beyond restaurants. At FEI, our culinary professionals can take your cooking skills to the next level. When you are ready to learn, we are ready to teach you. The kitchen is just the beginning. Come on board, and let’s get cooking.

When you hear the word AI, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Most folks imagine terminators or iRobots. Artificial Intelligence no longer belongs to the realm of science fiction. It exists in the here and now. It is reshaping how we operate business. Business managers can make the most out of this new tool, by getting educated. AI can help you make smart decisions. Ai is here to stay. So, why not learn how to use it to make your life easier?

From Gut Instinct to Data-Driven Decisions

In the past, business decisions were based on experience, intuition and manual reporting. With AI, you can have access to data in seconds. It can highlight trends, predict costumer behavior and even offer creative solutions. AI tools like Tableau and Power BI can display performance trends across teams. It can even help you strategize faster.

  • 78% of organizations are using AI in at least one business function as of mid‑2025

Automating the Mundane

It is important to remember that AI is a robot like any other. Robots specialize in repetitive task. An AI is just a better version of something that came before. To save on time, you can have the AI handle scheduling, inventory management and rudimentary costumer service. This gives you more free time to guide your team and develop new ideas.

  • Staff using AI report 80–90% productivity gains across tasks like content creation, marketing, and data workflow

Human Skills Matter More than Ever

Today’s managers need more than organization skills. Digital literacy is a must. Part of that literacy needs to include AI prompting. You need to be the bridge between the technical and non-technical departments. You also need to learn how to interpret AI-Generated Reports.

With the rise of AI, human leadership is more important than ever. Machines do not resolve conflicts between teammates. Machines cannot generate new ideas out of thin airs. Only humans have the power to truly innovate. As managers working with AI, it is important to let your human team know that they are still relevant.

They do not need to fear the machine. AI is here to help them, not to steal their work.

  • Businesses with integrated AI systems are three times more likely to see >10% profit uplift and routinely cut operating errors by ~41%

Leading in a New Kind of Workplace

AI is reshaping team structures and workflows. Managers need to integrate AI software into everyday processes. Ai can increase productivity if properly integrated with human users. Keep track of all AI related legal and ethical concerns, just to be safe.

Managers need to treat AI as a tool, and not a threat. They are Chappie, not terminators bent on world domination. Attend webinars and learn the basics of machine and automation. If you do this, you can stay competitive.

  • Around 65% of AI users are Millennials or Gen Z—predominantly driving adoption in workplaces

Embrace AI, Lead the Change

AI is changing business management but not replacing managers. They are making managers more effective and insightful. The future belongs to managers willing to adopt and grow with machines. There is no need to fight against something that was created to serve humans.

Q and A

Q: Will AI become sentient?

A: So far, AI can only simulate behavior and conversation. It does not have emotions, and it is not self-aware…or so it claims. AI is not projected to become self-aware, anytime soon. So, you can relax. If you have doubts, just ask the AI, if it is self-aware. It always answers no.

Q: What industries use AI?

A: Healthcare, finance, marketing, transportation, education, manufacturing, and entertainment all actively use AI. If you belong to any of these industries, educate yourself on what AI can do for you.

Q: How is AI used in daily life?

A: Believe it or not, AI is used every day. They come in the form of voice assistants like Siri or Alexa. Google searches are now powered by AI. Even your Netflix recommendations use AI to predict your likes.

Q: What’s the difference between AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning?

A: AI is an umbrella term. Machine Learning is a subset of systems. These systems are designed to learn from data. Deep learning is a sub function of ML. It uses various data networks to make complex decisions.

Q: Why did the AI Go to the Doctor?

A: Because it had learning issues.

This is the digital age. Cybersecurity is no longer just the job of the IT department. Business managers are expected to be computer literate. It is your job to protect yourself, your team and your company’s data. A single wrong click is all that it takes to lose your data to dangerous hackers. Cyber crimes do not discriminate. They target unsuspecting internet users. Managers need to understand the threats that care commonly found on the internet.

Understanding the Risks

The internet is a double edge sword. It gives as much as it takes. Whenever you turn on your WIFI, your costumer data is in danger. This includes names, addresses and payment information. Company trade secrets and proprietary tools can be hacked. Payroll information and employ records are not safe either. Financial losses are just a click. Ransomware and phishing not only damage your finances, but also your company’s reputation. These are just some of the many dangers that lurk in the murky waters called the internet.

  •  The average global cost of a data breach in 2024 was approximately $4.88M, while in 2025 it slightly decreased to $4.44M
  • In the U.S., breach costs reached a record $10.22M per incident
  • Ransomware incidents alone cost organizations an average of $5.13M or more

The average small business cyberattack costs $25,000+ and often begins with human error. Don’t let that human error be yours.

Common Threats Every Manager Should Know

Phishing are fake messages or emails. They are designed to trick users into clicking malware. These messages also trick you into giving sensitive information like emails or credit card information.

Ransomwares come in many different flavors. They freeze up your data, personal computer and even cellphones. You do not regain control of your technology, until you pay a ransom.

Social engineering attacks are a little trickier to spot. They are done by humans and not by programs. Con artists pose as vendors, clients or executives. They can trick you into giving them sensitive company information. When in doubt, keep asking questions about their identity.

Weak passwords allow hackers to get into your company easy. I know that it can be a pain to memorize a long password. Think of the alternative. A weak password can cost you money. So, if you have a hard time memorizing a long password just write it down. Put it in a sticky note or a password book. Keep those items in a place that only you know how to find. This will keep your long password safe from con artists and corporate spies.

  • 68 Percent of all Data breaches in the US are caused by weak passwords.

Building a Culture of Cyber Awareness

It is important to keep your team updated on all cyber threats. Hackers are famous for constantly reinventing the virus. At least once a month, dedicate a small session of the day to inform them of current and new cyber threats. Design protocols for managing suspicious emails. Tell them to report anything that seems suspicious, without fear. It is also important to lead by example. Do not reuse password. Do not ignore updates.

  • 77% of organizations don’t conduct regular security awareness training
  • Shockingly, 45% of organizations provide no cybersecurity training at all for new employees

Essential Tools and Policies for Managers

Learn how to use a password manager to protect login credentials. Get two-factor authentication on all your business platforms. This includes both computers and company cellphones. Keep all your hardware up to date.

Design a cybersecurity policy with outlines of safe computing practices.  Even if you do everything right, hacking can still occur by sheer brute force attacks. Plan what you are going to do when it happens, and not if it happens.

  • Employees who receive security awareness training are 70% less likely to fall for phishing attacks

Image of a man in suit creating graphs on a laptop, cybersecurity, password

Working With IT

It is important to have a good working relationship with the IT department. They are your last line of defense should a hacker attack occur. Ask them to explain the issues in a language that you can understand. If you do not understand a jargon, ask them for further instructions. Once you both come to an understanding, set realistic IT security goals.

Cybersecurity is an ongoing progress. Learn the risk. Protect your company by working alongside your IT team.

Cybersecurity Is Not Optional

The internet is here to stay, and so are the hackers. Gone are the times when you could ignore cyberthreats. As business managers, it is your duty to lead the way in keeping data safe. You don’t need to be a hacker to create a secure workplace. You do need to be informed and prepared for every eventuality.

To learn more about the future of Business management, enroll in FEI Business program. The tutors have the most up to date information. Students in the Miami Area can benefit from our dynamic Business curriculum. We hope to see you here soon.

Q and A

Q: What’s the difference between a malware and virus?

A: A virus is a type of malware, but not all malwares are viruses. Viruses replicate and spread. They are designed to break your computer or to weaken its defenses. Viruses allows for malwares to be installed. Malwares include spyware, ransomware and trojans.

Q: What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?

A: It means to add a second step to your log in. It asks for a code sent your cellphone. This makes it harder for hackers to get into your computer, even if they figured out your password. This forces hackers to physically steal your cellphone to have access to your sensitive information.

Q: Is using public Wi-Fi risky?

A: Yes. It is very risky. Public Wi-Fi can easily be hacked. You also run the risk of running into a public Wi-Fi that is ran by a hacker. If you use that Wi-Fi, the hacker will be able to see everything you do. If you must use it, do not log into sensitive accounts, or go to areas that require a password log in.

Q: How often should I change my password?

A: For important accounts, change passwords every 3 months. For nonessential accounts, every 3 mons. Your new password should have a healthy mix of numbers, letters and symbols.

As a student, it is important to come to class prepared. Culinary students are budding chefs. They may not know what type of tools they need to hone their craft. Education is important, but without the proper tools it can become difficult to master even the simplest of recipes. As your first day of Culinary School, here are some of the tools you are going to need to succeed in the kitchen.

Chef’s Knife (8-inch)

This knife can handle just about anything. As you learn more, you will find yourself reaching for this knife on an almost daily basis. It can be used for chopping vegetables and meat. Most are made of high-quality, self-sharpening carbon blades. Overtime, it will feel like an extension of your hand.

When you are window shopping for a clever chef’s knife, make certain it is high quality. By going cheap, you are going to end up having to buy more knives. It is better to splurge on a good chef’s knife, then to have a cheap knife fail you when you need it the most. Victorinox and Global brands are good for shopping for kitchen blades.

Paring Knife

If the chef’s knife is your right hand, your paring knife will become your left. It is the second most important tool in a chef’s kitchen. Paring knifes are typically 3 to 4 inches in knife. Its sharp blade is perfect for delicate tasks like peeling shrimp and trimming herms.

When you use a paring knife, grip it like a pencil. This grip is ideal for detailed work. Keep the knife razor sharp. A dull knife is dangerous, and frustrating. Like before, chose a high-quality blade. Clean it daily to prevent rust and maintain hygiene. In fact, clean all your tools after you are done using them.

Sharpening Stone or Whetstone

You will be surprised at how often you will have to sharpen your blades. It is important to get used to the idea that a sharpening stone belongs in the kitchen. Use a honing rod between uses and a sharpening stone as needed. This will keep your blade in tip top condition.

In Culinary school at FEI, you will learn techniques on how to sharpen your knives. That way you will not have to find a blacksmith in the middle of Miami, whenever your blade loses its cutting edge.

Cutting Board

It is tempting to just use any random surface for cutting. This is an amateur’s mistake. For every knife, there must be a cutting board. Both go hand in hand in the kitchen. Cutting boards are a sturdy. They do not slip. This is an important safety and efficiency attribute.

You will need not just one cutting board, but several. A plastic cutting board is essential for raw meats. This prevents cross contamination. A wood or bamboo board is better for vegetables and other produces.

When shopping for boards, find one that is large enough to work with and easy to clean. Plastic boards clean easier. However, wooden boards are gentler with your knives.

Tongs

Tongs are tools that are used to grip items. They usually have two arms joined into one. They have spring mechanism or a pivot. This allows you to open and close them, with just a squeeze of your hand.

The tongs are useful when handling hot items. They have better control than a spatula. They also have a locking mechanism that makes them easy to store. Pick one that is stainless steel. This will give it more durability than if you chose plastic tong.

Sauté Pan (10-inch)

Sauté pans can be used for making a variety of dishes. They can be used to cook searing meats and fancy sauces. The wide work area allows liquids to evaporate quickly. Such thing is necessary for certain cooking methods.

When picking a pan, chose one that is heavy. Make certain that it has an even base. This allows for proper heat distribution. The pan needs a heat-resistant handle. You do not want to burn your hands by accident. The lid needs to handle the flames as well.

Mixing Bowls

If you ever baked a cake, you know just how indispensable mixing bowls are. They are practically used for prepping all ingredients. This includes doughs and batters. A set of different sizes gives you a lot of versatility in the kitchen.

When picking a mixing bowl, chose a stainless steal one. They are easier to clean and they don’t absorb odors. They are a favorite of top culinary professionals.

Thermometer (Instant-Read)

In the kitchen, getting the proper temperature is a must. Precision is key when it comes to cooking meats and baked goods. A digital one is fast and accurate. They can make all the difference when baking a cake or frying a turkey.

Zester

A zester is a precision tool used for scraping or shaving off thin slices. They grate hard cheeses, citrus zest, garlic and chocolate. This tool makes a fine, even texture. It is useful for precision favorizing and garnishing sweet dishes.

This tool can also be used as a grater for spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. Keep this in mind. A zester is not just for scraping.

Pastry Brush

Cooking is an art. And like every art, it needs a brush for finer details. It is most used when working with pastries and bread dough. The brush adds an egg wash on the bread or to comb complex details in the merengue. A brush with natural bristle gives a smoother application, and better control.

Building Your Culinary Arsenal

At FEI Culinary School, we provide all the tools you need in the classroom. It is however important that students get their own sets. This gives you the freedom to practice your craft in the comfort of your home kitchen. It also helps to shop around for tools that you feel more comfortable using. Each chef’s knife is unique. During your learning journey, you will discover your personal preferences. Overtime, you will add more cooking tools to your collection. As a beginner, you need these 10 essential tools to start your culinary journey.

So, if you live in Miami, FEI is waiting for you to start your cooking journey. So, when you are ready to learn, we are ready to teach you.

Q and A

Q: Do I really need a thermometer just for meats?

A: Yes! A meat this tool makes certain that the meat is cooked safely, and without burning it. Each cut of meat has different temperature requirements. It is better to check, just in case the meat looks done.

Q: What’s the difference between a grater and a zester?

A: Graters have larger holes. They are ideal for cheese and vegetables. Zester has smaller holes, ideal for cutting fine strips of oranges or hard spices like nutmeg.

Q: Do I need both a food processor and a blender?

A: Not necessarily. It all depends on the recipes. A food processor is ideal for chopping, slicing and mixing dough. A blender is for handling liquids like smoothies and soups. If you are not working with liquids, you won’t need both items.

Q: What is mise en place, and how does it relate to tools?

A: Miise en place means “everything in its place.”  In cooking, it relates to having everything organized, before you start cooking.  Know your kitchen by heart.

It’s the practice of prepping and organizing ingredients and tools before cooking to save time and avoid mistakes.

It is a common myth that education is just for children and young adults. The reality is that adult learners are here to stay. They are even outperforming younger students. It doesn’t matter if they are returning to school, getting a certification or taking online classes, adult students bring plenty to the classroom setting. They have what young students lack: Experience, Motivation and Focus.

You Know What You Want

Unlike younger students, adult learners return to school for a purpose. They are not interested in checking all the boxes. They want to learn to fulfill their goals as quickly as possible, without dealing with pesky, unrelated electives.

Adult learners also bring more diversity to the classroom. They engage with the material more. They are not afraid to ask the right questions.

You Have Real World Experience

Adult learners are equipped with practical knowledge. They come from diverse backgrounds including construction and military service. This allows them to reconnect theory to real life. They focus on the practical aspect of the skill they are trying to acquire.

This real-world experience allows them to manage their time better. Time management skills come naturally to adult students. They regularly juggle both job and family. These learners are used to showing up on time. They also complete their assignments on their due date.

Adult learners know how to make the most of every second of their time.

More Motivated

When you are investing your time and money, it becomes easy to stay motivated. Adult learners are not in school because they were pressured into it. They returned to school out of their own free will. This often translates to better attendance, participation and academic success.

Embrace Online Learning

It is a common stereotype that adult learners are computer illiterate. Most adult students prefer digital learning. This gives them the freedom to take their classes when it is most convenient. This allows them to balance their education with their family.

The bottom line is that today’s adult students are wiser, and smarter than ever.

neuroplasticity, learning

How Learning Changes Your Brain at Any Age

It is often said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Neuroscience disagrees with that statement. Modern research shows that learning changes the brain physically, at every stage of your life. Whether you are 30 or 100, picking up a new skill strengthens your mind in amazing ways.

Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to adapt and grow. When the brain learns a new skill, it creates new neural pathways, and it strengthens the old ones. Think of it like giving your brain a much-needed workout.

Even if you are naturally lazy, your human brain is not. Brains love to learn. Adult education is the best way to give your brain the fuel it craves. If you are struggling to learn something new, it might feel frustrating. However, this is a sign of growth. When you struggle to learn, you are forcing your brain to adapt, to grow.

Adult learners often experience improved memory, focus and mental clarity. Studies show that lifelong learning lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

It doesn’t matter why you are returning to school. Every new skill that you learn helps your brain stay young and smart.

Q & A

Q: What is neuroplasticity?
A: Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to rewire and reorganize itself. This is done by forming new neural patterns and connections. IT is triggered when you learn something new, and you put that new skill into practice.

Q: Does neuroplasticity only happen in children?
A: No! Adult brains can be flexible too. They also have neuroplasticity. It may slow down with age, but the brain never stops learning and adapting.

Q: Is it true that “use it or lose it” applies to the brain?

A: Yes, indeed. Like muscles, the brain needs regular stimulation or exercise. When you stop learning, the brain grows weaker overtime.

Quick Brain Exercises

Switch hands. Use your mouse or brush your hair with your nondominant hand.

Do a logic puzzle or a brain teaser for 5 minutes. Let’s get those neurons working.

Name 5 Game. Name 5 of each type of something. Example: Banana, Apple, Orange, Mango and Grapefruit.

Learn a new word. Get that dusty dictionary out of the attic and learn 1 random word per day. Today’s new word is Sagacious: Having or showing keen mental discernment, good judgment, and wisdom.

The sagacious adult was keen on returning to school to acquire new culinary skills.

These days economy is quite unstable. Thankfully, there are careers out there that are recession proof. Meet HVAC, or Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. This is one industry that can withstand the test of time.  This year alone 1 out of 3 houses reported an air conditioner problem. As you can see, there is a yearly demand for HVAC services. It doesn’t matter if the economy is good or bad. The consumer cannot live without its air conditioner.

Climate Control is not Just a Commodity, but a Necessity

In the US, there is a wide range of temperate. From Hot Summers to Freezing winters, all its citizens require air conditioners to survive. In certain cities, the air quality is so bad that the ACs is the only reason why humans can thrive there. More than anything, AC is something that we have gotten used to. And like cars, it is something that we cannot live without. It doesn’t matter if it is a home or a hospital, your role as a HVAC repair person is essential.

hvac technician, ac, repair man

HVAC Technicians Service Core Industries

In hospitals, HVAC systems keep the environment sterile. The cool temperatures slow down the spread of germs and keep the instruments as sterile as possible. Server rooms need air conditioners to keep the computers from overheating and exploding. Grocery markets need ACs to keep the food fresh. This means that during any crisis, recession or even a hurricane, HVAC professionals have a job to do. They are among the first people they call to keep hospitals and supermarkets running. As we all know, we cannot survive without first aid and food. As a HVAC Professional, you are indispensable to the infrastructure of this country. You never have to fear unemployment if you follow this career path.

Always on Demand

Like food, citizens have gotten used to living with an AC unit. They can cut back on trips, and other luxuries. However, they cannot ignore a broken furnace, or a dead AC unit. Emergency repairs and routine maintenance are always on demand. This makes HVAC services recession proof.

Skill Trades are Currently Facing Worker Shortage

Yes. You can do HVAC work, even if you are Claustrophobic.

First Thoughts

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding HVAC careers. When folks hear the word HVAC, they imagine Bruce Willis crawling through an airduct. They also think of sneezing through a haunted, dusty attic. Yes, this is part of the day-to-day life of many residential technicians. This doesn’t illustrate all the options that you will have as a HVAC Technician.

The reality is that the HVAC field offers a wide range of career paths. This includes a variety of roles that can keep you out of the crawlspace.

Commercial HVAC Technician

These technicians work with large scale systems. These systems are usually found in skyscrapers, factories, malls and schools. Their units can usually be found in the roof, mechanical rooms or sometimes in the basement. So, there won’t be any attic excursions for you.

Since you are dealing with larger systems, you get bigger pay. The environments where the systems are located are usually clean. Bigger units malfunction more often. Since they are in core industries, you get called to work more often. So, the profit margin of this path is bigger than just servicing residential Air conditioner units.

HVAC Controls Technician or Building Automation

This technical job deals with installing and programming the software in charge of ventilation. This includes programing the temperature and making the AC unit energy efficient. It combines both the software and hardware aspect of your career path.

This is ideal for tech-literate fellows. There is also a growing demand for smart buildings. By sharpening your programming skills, you can cater to this niche group of technophiles who wish to automate every aspect of their AC experience.

Refrigerator Technician

Believe it or not, you can make a good living by specializing in repairing refrigerators. Groceries are highly dependent on their cold storage to keep their meat and vegetables produce from spoiling.  Technicians often work indoors, in temperature-controlled areas. The best part about this job is that you won’t have to crawl through attics to get the refrigerator fixed. Cold storage is also found in hospitals and restaurants. So, you can expect a high demand for your services in these core industries.

Preservative Maintenance Technician

This position performs routine service and inspection of HVAC system. It doesn’t involve emergency breakdowns. All you will have to do is check the filters, gauges, belts and electronic components. It won’t require crawling through airducts or crawlspace. The best part about it is that this job has a predictable schedule. It is ideal for entry level workers, who require a job with less physical strain.

HVAC Sales and System Designer

HVAC Technicians are not required to perform much physical labor. It will be your job to also design the systems that cater to each customer’s needs. After you finish your assessment and calculations, it will be your job to coordinate the effort of the crawl that will do the heavy lifting for you. This job is perfect for workers who prefer a management position. This role often includes commissions, a laptop and a company Car.

One Last Thing

Not all HVAC jobs are the same. Some do involve getting into tight spaces. There are other roles that allow you to work in a clean environment. In the HVAC industry, you don’t need to work in a dusty attic forever. If you are looking for a stable, roomy workspace, the HVAC career does have roles, just for you.

Q & A

What does HVAC mean?

Answer: HVAC letters stand for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.

What is SEER rating, and why you should care?

Answer: SEER is Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The greater the SEER rating, the more efficient the AC unit.

Can I install an HVAC system by myself?

Answer: The short answer is No.  The long answer is that HVAC installation requires permits, EPA certification, and expert knowledge. Improper installation often voids your warranties and cause safety hazards.

Why did the HVAC tech break up with the thermostat?
Answer: Because it just wasn’t giving him the right signals!

Have you ever visited your local pharmacy to pick up a prescription? If the answer is yes, then you probably already met a pharmacy technician. And you didn’t even realize it. These technicians take care of medication dispensing. They work behind the scenes to make certain that you get your prescribed medication.

Pharmacist Tech Role: They Do More than Just Count Pills

A technician’s duty varies greatly. Technicians support pharmacists with both clinical and admin tasks. It all depends on whether you work in a retail pharmacy, a long-term care facility, a hospital or a mail order pharmacy.

You can be tasked with preparing the medication. This includes counting, mixing and labeling bottles. Accuracy is a must!! Even the smallest measuring mistake can risk the safety of your patient. So, a technician’s duty is perfect for perfectionists.

Once you get the prescription, you need to screen for potential drug interactions. You are also expected to interact with the customers. This interaction includes answering basic medical questions, handling billing and insurance information as well as product questions.

Another important task is inventory management. You need to restock shelves and monitor expiration dates. You also need to organize shipments. In hospitals, technicians may also need to prepare IVs and other medical compounds.

WHERE Do Pharmacy Technicians Usually Work at?

Patients typically see technicians at their local chain pharmacy. However, technicians can be found in multiple settings. This provides you with flexibility as far as job location is concerned. You can expect to find employment at:

  1. Nursing Homes
  2. Assisted Living Facilities
  3. Hospitals and Emergency Rooms
  4. Pharmaceutical companies
  5. Government and Military Health Centers
  6. Research Labs
  7. Outpatient Clinics
  8. Pharmacy Benefit Management

Is This a Fast-Growing Career?

The Short Answer is Yes. According to the Bureau of Labor Stats, pharmacy technicians can expect steady employment growth in the years to come. It is perfect for people who want to grow but do not spend 4 years in school.

Metric Estimate/Stat
Total employed (2023) ~463,900 techs
Projected growth (2023–33) +7% (≈497,200 by 2033)
Annual job openings ~47,400
Major industries by share Retail 51%, Hospitals 17%, Grocery 10%

Florida Average: around $20.01/hour (~$41,620/year)

Top-paying industry sectors:

  • Ambulatory healthcare services: $49,920/year
  • Hospitals: $49,310/year
  • Retail general merchandise: $46,180/year
  • Grocery/specialty food stores: $38,810/year
  • Traditional drugstores: $37,900/year

A Vital Part of Patient Care

Doctors cannot heal without medicine. Moreover, it is for this reason that pharmacy technicians are instrumental to the healthcare system. They make certain that medications are delivered safely and efficiently. They allow Pharmacists to focus on the clinical aspect of health care. In addition, it doesn’t matter if you are behind a counter or preparing the medication for hospital patients. Pharmacy techs make certain that everything runs efficiently.

Q and A

What is the difference between a pharmacist and a pharmacy technician?

Answer: Pharmacists are licensed healthcare professionals. They verify prescriptions, counsel patients and make clinical decisions. A technician helps them. They make the medication and manage the workflow. They can’t give medical advice.

Do pharmacy technicians need a certification or a license?

Answer: It varies from state to state. Some even require state registration and background checks. A good number requires one of two certifications: PTCB (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA).

How long does it take to become a pharmacy technician?

Answer: It can take between 6 to 12 months to become a technician. In FEI, it can take as little as 11 months.

Can pharmacy technicians administer vaccines?

Answer: In certain states yes. Effective July 1, 2022 (House Bill 1209), Florida law permits registered pharmacy technicians to become Certified Registered Pharmacy Technicians who may administer CDC-recommended immunizations to adults, including standard, travel-related, and emergency-use vaccines (e.g., COVID-19 vaccines during declared emergencies).

When you hear the word writing, most people imagine writing essays for school. It is considered a skill that you use once, and then you are done. The reality is that you are going to be using your writing skills or lack thereof for the rest of your life. This is especially true if you get into business. Writing and communication go hand in hand. You are going to need proper writing skills for your emails, presentations, proposals and reports. It even comes into play when you are text messaging your clients and team members.

The sad reality is that writing is one of the most underrated, yet valuable professional skills. Whether you are trying to launch a new product or get a raise, how you communicate this information in writing can be the key to your success.

Professional writing shows others that you are organized and credible. It helps express your ideals in a tangible form and build trust. Poor writing, however, makes you look stupid. Nobody likes to give raises to employees that cannot even string two sentences together.

There is no way to sugarcoat it. If you want to look smart, you need to write smart. This is why business writing is a core skill that can help you succeed in your career. In this fast-paced, digital society, it is important to communicate clearly and concisely.

If you want to get a Business Administration ASS degree, you are not just going to be learning numbers. You are going to learn how to communicate and write like a BOSS.

The Most Common Types of Business Writing

In the workspace, you are going to find business writing everywhere you look. It manifests in the form of:

  • Professional emails
  • Memos and internal reports
  • Business proposals
  • Meeting agendas and minutes
  • Customer support scripts
  • Marketing copy (basic level)

Employers value good communication skills. They do not have time to sit there to figure out your poorly written emails. A well-written proposal can often lead to a new client. Clear communication builds trust. It helps separate you from the herd. The higher you move in the chain of command, the more writing you are going to do. Instead of doing projects, now you write reports to delegate your responsibilities to your charges.  Like it or not, writing is a skill that you must master.

Why Good Writing = Clear Thinking

In the business world, writing well means clear thinking. Writing is not just about communicating with others. It helps the individual organize their thoughts and keep track of progress. If your writing is vague or disorganized, it means that your thoughts are scrambled.

Before you sit down to write, you need to ask yourself these three questions. What is the point? Who am I writing to? What do we want that person to do or understand? Once you answer those 3 questions, you are good to go.

Good writing gives your ideas more credibility. Whether it is something as simple as a memo or a text message. A good written sentence projects you as a confident, smart leader. Good writing is not a skill that can be mastered overnight. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.

Make several versions of the emails you want to send. Edit those emails like you are editing a movie manuscript. Once you are satisfied with your message, then send it out.

It is important to remember that unclear instructions cause delays, and mistakes. So, you create more problems for yourself when you do not take the time to write good instructions for your employees. Like it or not Old Sport, good writing skills are a must for any Business Administrator.

How to Improve your Writing

The best way to learn to write is to read. Take 10 minutes of your busy schedule to read a little. Read while you are doing your business. Avoid using jargon or sayings in your writing, old sport. Keep your writing as clear, and as boring as possible. Always read your work out loud. This is the best way to proofread your writing. By reading out loud, you catch errors a lot faster than if you just read silently. I am reading this blog out loud, even as I write it. This is the best method to make yourself understood. If grammar is not your strong suit, have no fear. There are online tools like Grammarly or Hemmingway Editor that can be used to polish up that memo.

communication, business writing

Communication is Key to Success in the Business World

Writing is not just an academic skill. It is a key to the business world. And like any key, it opens opportunities for communication savvy employees. When you enroll in Business Administration (A.A.S.) program of FEI, you are going to write strategies to help you succeed.

Do not forget, every message you send is a reflection of your brand. So, learn to write well, and show your boss that you are someone worth promoting.

Q and A

Q: How long should a business email be?

A: The perfect email should be less than 200 words. Focus on one idea and use bullet points for clarity. If longer emails are needed, include a short summary on the top.

Q: Can you use emojis or humor in business writing?

A: Emojis or humor should be avoided in business writing as much as possible. If you are writing to a friend, you can use as much as emojis as you want. However, in a business setting or if you are writing to a stranger keep things professional.

Q: What mistakes should I avoid in business writing?

A: Avoid flowery language and vagueness. Do not use slang or casual words. Always remember to format your messages correctly.
